Paula Morgenstern, PhD Candidate at UCL Energy Institute will join our panel of experts at the upcoming “ESOS Implementation" evening event on 8th October. This CBx Evening event will shine a spotlight on industry uptake of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme. We will hear from Keith Brierley, Senior Advisor at the Environment Agency, on the implementation of ESOS so far and learning outcomes from the process. University College London will present research on Energy Audits in complex buildings and finally, the speakers will be joined by Industry Experts for a panel discussion which will explore the ESOS process alongside challenges and opportunities identified so far.

Paula is an engineer with a strong interest in the interface between technology and society. She holds a diploma degree in Chemical Engineering with a focus on energy from the Technical University of Hamburg (Germany) and a MRes degree from UCL in energy demand research in the built environment. Currently, Paula is about to complete her PhD at the UCL Energy Institute investigating the electricity use of hospital buildings and identifying operational carbon savings. Prior to joining UCL, Paula has worked as assistant to numerous research projects in Germany, the UK and Argentina as well as for the energy services provider Dalkia and a technical, weekly newspaper (vdi Nachrichten).

On the day Paula will be presenting "Straightforward? Energy saving strategies in complex buildings and estates." Many non-domestic buildings and sites are comprised of numerous different spaces with differing occupational characteristics. Defining stringent energy management strategies to meet these different needs without foregoing reduction opportunities can be challenging. Based on research undertaken in the hospital context, this presentation highlights a number of factors not to be overlooked when defining carbon reduction strategies in health care and other complex buildings.

Don’t miss your chance to hear from Paula, along with our other speakers:

  • Keith Brierley, Senior Advisor, Environment Agency
  • Lindsey Malcolm,  Environmental Team Leader, XCO2 Energy Ltd
  • Andries Van der Walt, Associate, Head of Sustainability, Asset Services, Cushman & Wakefield
