Munish Datta, Head of Plan A & Facilities Management at M&S, will join out panel of experts for upcoming event “Innovate UK: BPE Outcomes” on 20th November. This event will share the knowledge and experiences from Innovate UK’s £8m commitment to fund the costs of building performance evaluation studies on domestic and non-domestic buildings. Our panel of experts will be providing reliable information to help improve the performance of new and refurbished buildings through specification, design, delivery and operation.
Innovate UK’s Building Performance Evaluation programme was put together to develop supply chains in order to help them deliver more efficient and better performing buildings. Funded studies have met requirements to use specified protocols, tools and techniques to capture data in a comparable form. The evaluation covers over 100 projects across a range of sectors, providing a substantial body of data for many building types to draw generic conclusions on the performance obtained through various design strategies, building fabric, target performances, construction methods and occupancy patterns, handover and operational practices.
Munish heads the creation of the strategy and delivery of Plan A (M&S's sustainability programme) for M&S properties across the world, and heads up the team that delivers facilities management for the M&S Global HQ in London. Within its built environment, Plan A has enabled the retailer to become 34% more energy efficient, 27% more water efficient, divert all waste from landfill, become an industry leader in sourcing sustainable materials and launch multi-award winning sustainable learning retail stores in Sheffield, Stratford, Cheshire Oaks, New Delhi and recently, York. Since 2006, applying Plan A to M&S properties has contributed £114m in benefits. Munish contributes to several industry task groups, is a CIBSE Building Performance Awards judge and sits on the advisory council of the National Energy Foundation. He speaks regularly at industry events and conferences and is a regular guest speaker at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Munish loves to exchange ideas on twitter @MunishDatta.
