Julian is a chartered building services engineer and Fellow of CIBSE with a specialism in sustainable/environmental building design, client design advice and low carbon master planning. He has 27 years of experience and has completed high performance projects around the world whilst working for BDP, NDY, Arup, Atkins and currently Cundall. These include the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Tower Place in London, the Parkview Battersea Power Station scheme, and an owner occupier, low carbon office in Epsom.
He has recently completed his own certified Passivhaus in Hampshire. This has been a fantastic learning experience with real hands-on development of the performance modelling and construction system. The house is performing better than predicted with reduced energy, fantastic comfort and high quality internal air quality
He is a regular judge for the Construction News Awards and the RIBA sustainable building award. This has given him great insight to where construction industry best practise rests and where the challenges are.
He has a strong interest in Architecture, the built environment and building performance. In 2016 he chaired the UKGBC task group – delivering Building Performance. This work identified five key success factors that can be implemented now to deliver better and reliable performance outcomes.
